Turn key on GPR not cycleing......Power to it on the battery side....power from the ignition side....I can manually ground the relay it worked only with a jumper, and I also replaced it with a stancore no change....Swapped out the PCM to one i know works no change.....Does any one have a scmatic for that wire I belive it is also controled by oil temp switch through the pcm...it is below 50 in the morning whare is the oil temp switch...If i'm goining in the wrong direction stop me.....thanks
IIRC I believe the GPR is turned on by the PCM by grounding one side of the primary. I think the other side of the primary is always hot. Both sides of the primary should have 12V on them when the relay is off because to DC voltage the primary winding is just a straight wire and the side that gets grounded is open. I put a GPR disconnect switch on the side that gets grounded. One side of the secondary side (big red cable) is always hot from the battery. When the GPR turns on the other side gets hot and supplies juice to the GPs. But with the engine off the voltage might be sucked down below 12V because those GPs use a lot of juice. Can you hear the relay clicking on? You should also see your voltmeter go way low when it turns on. If you can get it to turn on by grounding the side of the primary connected to the PCM, then for some reason it is not being turned on. I'd start by checking connections. I'm not sure about other inputs to the PCM that affect the GPR. Hope this helps.
GPR small terminal BLK/ORG goes through a fuse link to battery.
GPR small terminal PPL/ORG goes to PCM pin # 102 and is pulled to ground by the PCM to activate GPR.
GPR small terminal Red/LTGRN goes through fuse #22.
GPR small terminal PPL/ORG goes to PCM pin # 102 and is pulled to ground by the PCM to activate GPR.
Just a ? but how have you determined that the GPR isn't working?
Did you run a 12v wire from battery to the GPR small terminal to see if it activates that way?
What do you mean you manually grounded it? If that worked, maybe it just needs a better ground??
White smoke, hard start (cold), No drop in voltage key on,GP lite turns off instantly after key on,and last but not least I checked it with a volt meter, key on GPR does nothing.....
I have 12 Volts to the GPR with the key on
manually grounding means i ran a jumper to ground and it worked..wich bypassed the PCM that controles the GPR and makes it cycle If you just ground that termanal i belive the glow plugs will stay on .....
Sounds like a perfect situation to install a momentary push button to make em get hot from the cab!!
I could do that but that would make my remote starter inop and the iditots at work woulnt understand and crank it to death...I would prefer to fix it so it cycles
Hopefully someone with knowledge of the temp sensor(s) that tell the PCM how warm it is will chime in. Sounds like the problem is in that area. Meantime you could wire in a momentary switch to ground the terminal the PCM is supposed to ground. If you do that, make sure the switch goes off when you release it, or your GPs will be on constantly until something burns up!
I'm slow earnie. I know what you mean trying to educate shop people. I had a heck of a time telling the body shop how my GPR kill switch worked when they fixed my deer dent.
GPR small terminal Red/LTGRN goes through fuse #22.
GPR small terminal PPL/ORG goes to PCM pin # 102 and is pulled to ground by the PCM to activate GPR.
Powrstrker you are correct and i have come to that conclusion and my problem is i also dont know what controled the PCM to make it cycle
I will check Fuse #22 and PCM #102 and report back.....
