The difference is the "long" arm one was replaced by the "bent" looking one, I cant tell you why but you cant get the "long" ones anymore.

The deal with the straight arm versus the bent arm.

When installing the straight arm lift pump you must roll the engine over till the low spot on the drive cam can be seen with an inspection mirror.
Failure to do so can cause lift pump failure, the arm to break off and fall in the oil pan, possible engine damage if it hits something else on the way down like the crank shaft.

Both pumps will work just fine as long as they are installed correctly.

I just bought a bent arm lift pump at NAPA last winter.
They have both and the box has the same number for both.

I wasnt aware that they still made the old style ones, all I've ever seen for aftermarket was the new style. Good to know!

I am not going to say that they are still making the old style.

Given the amount of inventory NAPA has here at the distribution center, that may have been a 10 year old inventory item.

I just know the item numbers are the same, you only know which one you have when you open the box.

Hi Dave,

I just ordered a Bosch Pump (looks like it wasn't just my heater o-rings that were causing my woes ). If I get the "bent-arm" style, does that mean I can skip the step with the mirror, and rotating the engine?

Thanks,
Chris.
