I have been working with my local PPG paint supplier for the sungate ivory (grill color for the 1952 F-1). I found one reference here on the forum that listed the PPG code for this as 81897 but he was not able to use this for any of their basecoats.
Before I start blindly looking through paint chips looking for a close match, I wanted to check to see if anyone on the forum had been here before and located a successful close match....
I've got a DuPont color chart that lists 1952 Sungate Ivory with a Duco #1322 and a Dulux #93-55874. The Dulux is what you probably want because that's the enamel number. See if they can cross reference to that number. Stu
Thanks. I will go back to my PPG dealer and try once more! I provided them the 81897 code and their response was this was only valid for a lacquer. That is when they suggested I start looking at paint chips since I am using a basecoat/clearcoat system! I will see if the cross reference on the Dulux numbers can be of any help. If I find something close, I will post for others on this thread.

That was a VERY widely used color, and they should be able to get it for you. If the pint code doesn't work, they should have an equivelency table. For example, th ebluish color on my truck is a 51 Olds color - well they don't have it listed as that, you have to order it as 1971 Toyota - blah blah blah. I had an older can of the olds color and it and the Toyota were exact! Side by side no diff.
I prefere the DuPont paints anyway and you may have better luck there. If nothing else, you can get a paint chip and have it matched in whatever product youare using - shoot enlarge and print the one from Earls as a last resort or take the link and have them do it in shop.
Ross - not a bad sugestion, thanks. But I got the paint already so I will try that route first. Just for anyone else in the future who might need the Sungate Ivory paint code, here is what I found...
For the '51/52/53 Sungate Ivory used by Ford (Ford code M0068), the PPG lacquer code is the one listed in Earl's world (81897). My PPG dealer was able to locate the correct color blend for their acrylic enamel and their basecoat using PPG paint code 80090.
The Dupont cross reference came up with 1322, 246-55874, and 83-55874, but since I was only dealing with PPG products, you will have to confirm these for yourself if you use Dupont products.
Thanks again to all for the help. Much appreciated ! Fred
You might want to consider getting that grille powdercoated. They can match darn close, and the grilles really get chipped up quickly.
I apologize for replying to such an old thread, I work at a powder coating shop and have a customer wanting to get their wheels powder coated in Sungate Ivory and this is the ONLY thread I found mentioning powder coating. You don't happen to know of a good powder coat color match for the Sungate Ivory do you?
That is the route I will have to go, my only issue is there are over 6,000 colors on the website we order from and we do not have all of the swatches so I will be guessing as I order swatches to try to match. That may be my only option though, thank you for your reply!
