Turbo Surging

Hi all,
I did a search on turbo surging to see if my problem was similar to anyone else, and it doesn't seem to be.
Anyway, I have an early 04 and have had very little trouble till now. This has happened to me twice in the last 3 weeks. I will be pulling up a 7% incline hill in overdrive and all of a sudden I feel a loss of power and the boost guage will bounce around from between 10psi and 20 psi. I give it more gas to downshift and all seems fine after that. The only difference in these times is I am using the A/C. I can count on one hand the number of times i use the A/C, so this may be the issue, just not sure. Has this happened to anyone else?
Thanks

Unplug the egr valve and try to recreate the concern, if it goes away I would replace not clean the egr valve. A bias ICP sensor could also cause this, although usually they will also surge at idle.

my turbo surges too

It seems that your having the same problem as me right now. At first I thought it was the egr valve, cause thats usually what it is. So i installed a new one, and still had the same problem. Mine usually surges at about a constant speed of 25-30, and when it surges it puffs smoke like a badass. I took it to Ford dealer and they tried telling me the turbo was locking up. I called there bluff so i had them to remove it and they were right, the center section had alot of rust build up on it. So i have to buy a new center section. So just pray that you only have to replace the egr valve.

When mine surged and "chuffed", I had about 65k miles on it, it turned out to be rusted up turbo vanes, like the previous poster. Consider that for sure, mine has been good to go since replacing the center hub.

Hmmm... Mine has something similar, just started doing it. I'll be cruising along, like after I left a light or stop sign, about 1/2 pedal-ish. Not hammer down. But when it is in like 3rd gear, it'll take off like I gave it more pedal when I didn't. Now the first time this happened I figured it was my imagination, but it happens every once in awhile. Maybe she's telling me she needs a lil' cleaning out! Sorry for the hi-jack! *EGR unplugged* EDIT- Sreaking of unplugged, I noticed I have been able to hit 30psi boost unplugged, whereas in an older post I thought I was limited to 25-28ish WOT. Wrong, I have seen 30 at WOT.

Ryan did they determine what caused the rusting? and welcome to FTE.
