backfire!!!!

1984 F250, 351. I had just cleaned out the carb and changed the distributor cap and rotor. After changing the dist. cap and rotor, I now have some backfiring going on after letting off the throttle while the engine is winding down. Saturday, the engine backfired so loud it blew the exhaust pipe free from the muffler....... this had got to be fixed......

A carb that is too lean will sometimes do that.
As will incorrect (or incorrectly installed) ignition parts.
