my 351c bronco was backfiring under load and missing at idle. nasty stuff.
I replaced the plugs, leads, ignition coil and air filter. I took the distributor off to check it for cracks or tracks - and the rotor button had gone.
so I hobbled down the road to an auto store and grabbed a new dizzy cap, rotor button and all. (i marked the leads & old cap for firing order reference)
The backfiring and missing is now gone. I am very happy it was a $30 part and not a $300 or $3000 job.
