I have a 99 powerstroke it has 160000 new injectors new gpr and all new beru glow plugs at 65* the truck starts hard takes alot of cranking to get it started the hpop is full tested the gpr uvhc is good anyone have any other ideas and how do you check the fuel pressure?
If it starts after 15 to 30 seconds of cranking, it shouldn't be a voltage problem. Voltage would go down after that much cranking. Sounds like a fuel problem. Does it act like this every time you start it, or just the first time in the morning? In other words, if you shut it off, and come back in 5 minutes or so, will it start up like it's suppose to, or do you have to crank it for another 15 to 30 seconds?
Since your truck is a 99, I wonder what kind of fuel pump it has. Pat has a good reminder mentioned above about the glow plugs, are they working? If your truck has an electric pump, it should have plenty of fuel pressure at start-up. I know the early 99's had some of the same stuff as the 97's do. I don't know about the fuel pump though. Does your truck have the fuel pump located in the valley of the engine? If it does, it's a mechanical pump that runs off the cam of the engine. My 97 has that. It could be that it's loosing fuel from sitting, and has to suck it back up from the tank to start.
no it has the electric pump and i tested the new gpr after i put it in and it works the reason i put on a new gpr is that one of the wires had rubbed on the rocker assy and shorted so i did all new gps at the same time
The IPR could be acting up, but it usually does that when the engine is warm. It's loosing something while sitting, either fuel, or oil in the HPOP reservoir. Since it has an electric fuel pump, that should correct itself when you turn the ignition on and wait for the glow plug to do their thing. Have you checked the oil level in the HPOP after it sits overnight? I'd pull the plug and see how full it is in the morning. It should be about an inch from the top.
For some reason i keep thinking that it might be bad fuel pressure the truck do seem to feel low on power like the older ones do when the manual lift pump is going out but its hard to tell the truck weighs in at 12k with the rig on it
