You can buy engine storage bags from jegs or summit, you can put wd 40 on all exposed surfaces then you can also get silica dessicant packs to absorb any latent moisture, build you a angle iron roll-around stand put motor in bag w WD40 on it with dessicant packs inside, seal and let marinate, remove when ready to grill
I second the bag idea, just make sure it will be big enough. I bough one for my spare 351M a while back and it was a tight fit. These motors ain't small
Andrew,If you pull the heads off soak with wd40,and bag them. Then if you pull the pistons out grease the cyls. Its a mess to clean up,but no rust.Just take apart, oil and bag everything and you'll be in good shape.
I know were you can get a realy nice crate to keep it in.
Careful with the bag wrapping ideas guys, while bags keep dust and crap out, they can also keep moisture in.
I once had a beautiful 4 cylinder 4 stroke engine I was saving for a go-kart, and wrapped it in plastic, and every single exposed metal part went from chrome finish to complete rust in a matter of about 6 months over the winter.
There are special spray oils that are meant to keep steel parts in tip top shape for shelf life- this is what you want. they spray on and leave a film over the metal keeping it nice and unweathered.
I had a car at one time, that was left outside for a month or so with the plugs and carb off, with the hood open. 1st I poured oil down the air intake, put the plugs back in, and kept filling it till it was full.
The result was a giant mess, but once taken apart, everything seemed to be fine, although lots of the oil disappeared somewhere, maybe leaked through the valves out the exhaust, I dunno but the point is that with enough oil, it will last outside real good.
