I have a 98 (150K) explorer that won't go into Over Drive and after about a minute driving above 60-70 with rpm ~2800 the OD light will blink and then it will shift rough. Unhooking battery resets it, but it just comes back. Have changed the TCC and EPC solenoids, but still the same. Would Swapping out the PCM possibly help. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks
There's two ways to fix this. The first is to randomly change parts until you happen to change something that's causing the problem. How well is this working for you so far?
The other way is to have the codes read so that a proper diagnosis can find the problem. Then you can fix the problem instead of randomly buying parts. I find that this way is MUCH less expensive.
There are step by step directions to diagnose this in the Ford shop manual.
The EPC is not involved with this. It could have been a stuck TCC, but you've proven that wasn't it. It could be a stuck valve, or a bad converter, or a leaking seal, etc. The tests in the shop manual will lead you to the root cause.
could be in the valve body itself(stuck valve) or the seal that goes on the stator suppor thats bad.like mark said.get a professional to do the proper diag.saves money in the long run
