You being in CA (I assume) I would say probably not. You can find them under $1000 on CL Atlanta. If you watch the pullapart yards around here, you can get them for <$200 complete. I think your best bet would be buying a complete junked truck.
Few minutes of looking in surrounding areas can net some pretty fancy results. You are fortunate that you dont have to look for a 78/9 axle.

I'm glad you're having such an easy time finding d60's. I bought mine for $150, but it was missing everything from the drivers side knuckle out. Now I spend all my time looking over craigslist or ebay looking for the parts I' missing.
I got a take off Dana 50 from a 99 F250 for $600, Some how or another I got involved with one of my customers who is going to do a DANA 60 swap and now need to sell the Dana 50.
