Need new turbo -- Garrett PowerMax?

Looking at getting a new turbo. Wondering about this "Garrett PowerMax Turbo 04-07 6.0L 772441-5001s" turbo. IS it worth getting if I just run the truck without any tunes? or should I just get the oem unit?

You can get the pm with out tunes.

Since the PM is a bigger turbo you will get a slower spool up with the pm compaired to the stock turbo. The PM will lower exhasut temps, and add just a little power.

Without tuning it will lag big time, I have one. Stock is fine if you are not looking for more power.

What do you mean by big time? If it lasts and runs equivelant to the stocker I would be happy.

So if a guy doesn't plan on adding a tune.. Then you would suggest staying with a stock unit? I know the stock has a lag, but don't want have additional lag.

Just want you guys to know what you are dealing with. The PowerMax is fine, lags stock, a mild....mild change from a tuner would fix that. You don't have to burn the house down with tuning, just fix what you want. Tuning is a wonderful thing so don't be hesitant. Number 1 Rule, if you plan on adding more ponies and go for the big numbers.... head studs highly recommended. Tow or a file for the PowerMax to clean up the lag is no problem.

Just giving you my first hand experience with the PowerMax, not necessarily valid with other model years, see your local Garrett Dealer for details.... Someone else my chime in on thier installation and results.

AAAAAWWWWWWW c'mon people. Go with the 64mm non-vgt turbo. It does bolt right in the stocker's place, just have to change out the pedestal.

Might just have to run the itsiest of of a tune though.
