I would not think twice about running all day at 12 or 13 PSI on a 7.3.

15 would be about as high as I would want to go though and still have a dependable long lasting engine.

after adjusting the wastegate how many threads do you have left on the rod? the reason im asking is im not sure if the po had adjusted it or not and was just curious then if i took it off how far down is safe?

when you talk about still having a good long lasting engine are your more talking about the gaskets and seals giving out or the block and heads....

i want to turbo my engine in the future but i would really like to be able to crank out high numbers.... but not damage anything

i will be doing a full overhaul before putting the turbo in though when i get it

I think I still have about .25-.50" of threads left to shorten the rod more.

I guess I will see how high(up to 15psi) it will go then, and adjust to keep it below that level.

How many threads are left don't mean much.
The only safe way to adjust the waste gate is with a boost gauge installed.

Intake restrictions, dirty air filter, small exhaust, restrictive muffler, weak injectors or IP, dirty fuel filter would all drop the boost numbers.

Ram air, clean air filter, healthy injectors and IP, clean fuel filter, big exhaust, no muffler all make more boost.

So you could look at five trucks, measure the rod in all five and see five different boost levels even though the rods were all the same length.

Hey SycoStang, how did it go? Did you pump the turbo to 15? Did you get her back on the rollers?

Not sure how high it will go right now, I have seen 12psi pulling a trailer and will easily hit 10psi unloaded on the street. Theres not much point in going higher than 10psi as the air gets to hot and you will start to lose power. I may go with an intercooler or water/meth injection later on, then I will look for more boost. Dyno results are in my sig.

awesome, thanks for the reply Syco. Ya man, my buddy is going to give me his intercooler off of his 2008 6.4 Superduty. When that goes down, I will check in with you. Hopefully you got yours by then.

Thanks again

you arent gonna ever see 10 lbs of boost when you get the intercooler on there deceptichop. filling all that area is going to be hard enough, and as the temp of the charge goes down, so does the psi. expect 5psi but you wont notice a drop in power because the air is more efficient

Also you have to secure the "flapper" even tho its hooked to the rod then the valve/diaphram deal, high boost can still open it up. So basically you would just need to find a way to secure the "flapper" so it can't move. Wire, weld, pin, ect.
