Thanks.

My wife wanted to be a police officer like me, when we first met. In fact, she was a police cadet for a local agency when we met. I ended up talking her out of going into that field, by explaining and showing her how and why she wasn't suited for that line of work.

She ended up becoming an EMT, and now she's a paramedic.

LEO's and medical professionals get along really well.

**UPDATE**
It has been 13 months since this thread was started, and things are going great. I really appreciate all of the positive encouragement and advice. I have been working in the Intake portion of our facility for about 6 months now. Only working in the pods on rare occasions. I was recently accepted to the Special Operations Response Team (SORT Team) which is basically the SWAT Team for the jail. I once again would to thank everyone for the words of encouragement.
One of the most important things i have figured out is "See your 12, and know your 6".
And it is a constant headgame for these guys that i deal with, so i have to be on my toes at all times and be one step ahead. As far as going to a patrol position, I don't forsee that happening anytime soon. I have been approached about it by some of the "Brass" but I don't think i am ready for that step in my career yet.
I had no idea the amount of emotional strain that would be involved, not as much on myself, but moreso on my wife and the first 6 months were tough. But it has definately been a life changing experience, we have figured out ways to make the most of our time that we are able to spend together.

Congratulations on your success,I have 12 years in as C.O. with some of that time at Sing Sing and the first year is tough.I have been on a CERT team for 9 years and the extra training is great.Take advantage of any training you can get.It is quite a compliment to your work ethic and personal character that they placed on the team it carries a huge responsibility and the decision on who is placed on those teams is not taken lightly by any department, kudos again. They watch and study us always reading us just as we try to read them, you can not afford to let your guard down for a second of your shift and that can take a toll. It's ok to get comfortable just dont get complacent.Stewart's post could not have been more insightful, from beginning to end fantastic advice. It can be easy to lose perspective, and I will be tucking that away somewhere as a reminder.Thank you Stewart.Outlets like this are great, and always make family first, everything can be replaced but them.I hope you have continued success in your career and stay safe.
