Ok so I know this may sound like a dumb question, but what kinda speed sensor do this truck use? I know it doesn't actually have a "speed sensor", but it must use something. Right? Any help here...

It's a cable, driven by a plastic gear that plugs into the tailhousing.

so this hooks from my tailpiece to my instrument cluster. Right? Because someone else told me it went to my rear end... Honestly I've never even thought of trying to mess with any cables unless they were hydrolic. Gears is a whole new ball game to me.

Wow, you must be getting info from a chevy guy or something!

The cable is nothing to be skerd of, at the end that goes on the transmission it will have a cap that threads over the speedo gear housing. It will then route up into the engine bay and then into the cab up near the master cylinder right behind the instrument cluster. Then it will slide over the male input shaft on the back side of the instrument cluster. It may even have a clip to hold it in place.

Thats it!

by "end", do you mean the very back face of the tranny? or somewhere on the side? cuz i been looking. and by "route up into the engine bay... into the cab near the master cylinder... behind the instrument cluster", do you mean i have to open my dash to access it?

"end" the actual end of the speedo cable, not the transmission.

The speedo cable is located on the side of the transmission about 3/4 of the way back from where it bolts to the engine. If you dont have have a speedo cable then your going to have to do some feeling around, or do some research on your particular transmission.

"into the cab near the master cylinder" This is from where my trucks speedo cable went into the cab from the engine compartment. Im guessing that it is the same since your truck is a 69 and mine is a 72 and are the same generation.

"behind the instrument cluster" Once the speedo cable enters the cab, it will be directly behind the instrument cluster. Looking up under the the dash you will see that the speedo cable will then thread onto the rear of the speedometer. (I did say earlier that it would slide on, but I looked at the one I have on the shelf and it actually threads on)

Inside this speedo cable is a square cable, that when spun by the transmission gear (remember inside the trans there is a small plastic gear) and it then turns your speedometer and odometer.
