I appreciate all the help fellas. I'm going to leave the truck alone and make it more efficient/reliable, so what do u suggest? What are these coolant/bypass filters? I have this 3 year unlimited mile bumper 2 bumper warranty, so I am hesitant to "fix" anything out of pocket. Sorry for my ignorance, but it's my first diesel!
Thanks for all the input folks, I really appreciate it. My goals with this truck is to get the most mpg, reliability and towing power. I am starting to think I should just leave well enough alone, it runs great! I have this killer warranty~3 years unlimited miles~so I am not wanting to spend $ that is not needed. What are these coolant/bypass filters? Remember, I'm a newb with theze diesels!
The coolant filter removes sand casting and other debri that leeches out into the cooling system and then plugs the oil cooler. When that happens the EGR cooler overheats and starts leaking. Both units then need to be replaced. The coolant filter will be a worthwhile reliability mod for under 200 bucks with extra filters. Probably the most recommended maint. mod on the boards.
