1987 Fuel Pump relay

I've been having electrical problems with the starter and relay. Now as I'm nearing getting them fixed, the engine won't fire. I think the fuel pumps aren't working and I may have fried something. Could it be the relay, and where is the relay located? Thanks

seeing both of your posts leads me to believe that you have a bad ground. check, and clean all grounds, make sure the neg cable is not corroded under the plastic , sometimes cable looks good, and is so coroded that it can't give a good ground

First off check your fuse in the fuse box, if it has power then check your fuel tank selector switch on your dash. Pull it out and put a test light to the plug while it is still connected to the wires.you should have six wires ( 3 on the one side and 3 on the other ) the two center wires are your feed wires to the switch. one is for the gauge and the other is for the fuel pumps. your test light will be brightest on the source for the fuel pumps. now check the one above and below the brighter center one and see if one of them have power. If not try switching the switch back and forth. if you do not have power at the upper or lower terminals then you have a bad selector switch. if one works but the other doesn't then one of your pumps is working but you still have a bad switch. if there is no power to the switch in the center position then you will need to check for power from the fuses to the switch..

turn your key on but not to start a listen for the hum of the fuel pump from the tank. If you have 2 tanks you have three fuel pumps. one in each tank and one on the frame rail below the drive side door. if your hearing is like mine you might have to get someone to turn the key while you hold your ear to the fuel tank. for the other pump just put your hand on it. the relays are located on the driver side fender near rhe air filter. there are 2 and i dont remember which is which but you can feel them click when you turn the key. they are about the size of an ice cube.

Thank you.
The pumps aren't coming on. I guess I wasn't clear. That's what led to the post. I'll check the relay. I searched all through the manual, but it never said where to find it. It is dual tank. I'll check the switch connections too, I guess. I may have knocked something loose while changing the ignition switch. Thanks loads!

Sounds like you left the fuse link off the starter Solenoid for the fuel system.
Not 100% sure on an 87 but the relays are in one of two places as in the photos below.

like subford said, yours are on the driver's fender, fuel is the green one, eec is the brown one. also check that the switch hasn't tripped it is on the inside fire wall, by the steering column, or behind the glove box area

Thanks, y'all. Subford hit it. My son had been helping me, and when he took the wires off, the dfuse link for the pump gut tucked up behind everything. Once I started digging for it, it was easy enough to find. Works fine. Now we'll see if that takes care of my starter problem, too.
Thanks again.
