We pulled out out the factory 400 cid and C-6 and are going back together with a '92 5.9 cummins and a 47RH trans. Has anyone that has done this know how much weight I am adding?
Thanks
75F350 is right on the weights. If I remember right a 5.9l cummins is 1200 lbs before you put 3 GALLONS of oil in it!
My cummins squatted the front a little bit more than the 360 that came out - but it didn't seem like too much. It's been so long since I've had it together to look though that I can't remember how much
The height difference was from no engine or trans to installing the cummins and nv4500. I bought the truck with no engine in it, but the last motor in there was a 460 I think. According to the VIN decoder in the lmc crapalog it came from the factory with a 400 and C6 combo.
IIRC the spring rate on a F250 is close to 600lbs/in (I would have to look it up and you could easily enough to get exact figures) then your putting in a 1200lb engine so if you put it all on 1 spring it would drop it 2" BUT remember it actually is spread between the springs so 1" per side not taking into account what weight will be transfered to the rear springs.
the difference between a 400 and a cummins is a little over 600lbs, divided in half is 300lbs per spring increase which adds up to about an extra 1/2" of drop.
