Go to page 3 of this forum, one was done in August. 10w30, not surprisingly, won. I believe this concurs with national sales data and is always a fun discussion.

Heard a report somewhere a while back that the average vehicle on American roads was like 7 1/2 years old, and THAT age was expected to grow - not much sense in pouring 5wThinny (or is it ThinW30?) in `em (on avg. that's in the neighborhood of 100K - probably more) often just pouring it through the tail-pipe and\or leaking elsewhere.

I usually move to 10w30 in a vehicle after it has 60 or 70K miles, especially in the summer. I like 5w30 in very cold weather and while the motor is still new and tight.
Understood and agreed. I like to do the same - though my daughters `97 Escort (auto-trans)(approx 80,000 miles) is still DANG tight - burns barely a drop of 5W30 year-round - actually switched her this past summer (about 75,000) to 10W30 - and seemed to burn a bit MORE! (?) Hope I didn't put too much pressure on it or something - problem MAY have been in that I got a good deal on Q.State (dino), and had previously run Valvoline, Castrol or Mobil (all dino) - think I did use the Wal-mart (Synth?) "blend" once though - all 5W30 with no resultant probs (consumption), and this "Es-quirt" was getting extended intervals, approx 6-8000 miles ! (?!?) She actually got it changed HERSELF for fall\winter at a Shell station - so I'm hoping that may help - I just would like to know if they used 5W or 10W - they did NOT note it on her reciept!
