I am in the process of installing gauges (hope to finish tonight - I'll get pictures up) and pulled the headlight switch to get to the dimmer lead.
What caught me off guard, is that the switch seems to be a different switch than i have seen pictured in newer SD's. This one has a rectangular cover (instead of oval) - so the advice to "pop it off with a screwdriver" literally breaks the cover off - revealing a spring loaded mechanism that you can only reach... by breaking off the cover. The cover seems to be attached by small points of glue or plastic along the outside edge of the switch housing - so I'll hopefully be able to put it back together - but I would love to hear from someone else who has seen this. Extra points if you know how best to put it back together.
Yep, you are right. Some are able to pop it off by pulling the dash out some and popping it from behind. I think, the earlier switches you have to pull the dial off and turn it 180 degrees and put it back on and turn the switch all the way to pull the release in. You can reattach the cover by using a soldering iron with a junk tip (the plastic melting won't do well for soldering in the furture) or some jb weld
