Since my wife passed away, I have spent many hours in my 53 just riding to nowhere. Sometimes taking a ride during the day, and others just getting out when I can't sleep at night.

The neighbor walked by the garage and caught the wife and i sitting in the truck and making motor noises ; ignition in the off position. Lots of fun, lots of great memories. Saved on gas also. LOL

It sounds like the two of you had a wonderful time.

When I get worried about money of the state of the world, I love to drive my truck around. Everyone loves it and is friendly and nice. It reflects a great time in our country and folks love nostalgia.

I can't help but wonder if that isn't because we know the past and the times the trucks were built in - kind of nice to look back. The future is uncertain but the past is tangible.

Also, Bob, I'm not sure your wife is looking at more children, as much as she enjoys the trucks because they are a close part of you. It's like wearing your shirt or something. When you are together in your truck it's going to feel very much like you have your arms around her, and that's a nice feeling when you are a little uncertain about money and problems. Shes sharing some simplicity, your fun place, and your world. Maybe a little nesting there - not sure.

One other thing that awakens me when I drive my truck, is how simple yet less convenient things were back then. You have to DRIVE these trucks - it ain't your sisters Beemer!

I wouldn't do flowers Bob, I'd just be a little closer to her on a daily basis (and find the cheapest gas station in town!)

Thanks for sharing Bob!

Its always nice (and a little surprising) when the little woman wants to be a part of our hobbies. I'm glad you and she have been enjoying life. Its kind of nice to get away from the kids for a little while and just enjoy each others company, remind yourselves what it is that drew you together in the first place.

Big thumbs up to you and her!
Bobby

After 18 years of raising the kids we're finally feeling a little freedom, not complete, there's still a lot of responsibilities that will last a life time but at least we don't have to holding their hands. They are starting to go away from the nest. It's hard for mama to let go, she thinks she should always be there to wipe their noses. It's really nice when I can convince her to go somewhere by ourselves.

I look forward to getting my F2 driveable. I keep telling my wife how great she'll look tooling around town with me but she's skeptical. I think she'll come around once it is more than a bunch of rusty parts in a pile.

Thanks for a great story, Bob. Can't wait to get mine together and on the road. And Oh Happy Day when I have to choose between 3 or 4 old trucks to drive.

And also, after 18 years of being an everyminute mom, it's hard to throttle back. Have youever had a really busy work week then go on vacation and find the first few days of that vacation, you can't seem to relax - it's like you should be doing something. Same thing here I think.

Plus, she may be feeling a little less needed. Hard at the start. Maybe the truck thing was a forced awakening......"Hey Bob, we're alone, I want to share some of your fun with you...Let's take the truck." (used to having enough love to give everyminute to four of five - waddaya do with all that when it's just th etwo of you now? Answer, Bob gets it all!) Only thing you need to watch out for is I'll bet in the next month or so she'll ask you if SHE can drive it!

Bob,

I couldn't agree with you and your wife more. My truck has gotten me through a divorce, cancer of a loved one, and many other "not so nice" things. It's amazing how time flies and how you don't think about things when you're working on your old truck. I would be feeling down and would head out into the garage and go to work. Hours later, I had the feeling of accomplishment and hadn't thought about what was bringing me down.

Now that the truck is back on the road, when I get down....or bored....or anytime I darned well feel like it, I jump in and take her for a ride. Without a doubt, I always get someone coming up to me when I'm at the gas sation....or giving me the "thumbs up" when I'm driving by or sitting beside them at a stop light. The look on peoples' faces....some returning to their childhood and some just loving the look of an old piece of history. No matter what, I always feel better after a nice long drive.

May we all have many happy days of "cruisin' our trucks!!"

Bob I can totally relate to the relaxed ride thing. My hubby and I take the 54 out to eat once a week or try to,but yesterday my Grandson & I went to do some errands and I told him to get In my chevy He says "NO Grandma we take old red" lol the grandaughters are the same way we have to take "old red" but its getting tough to fit 6 grandkids in the cab when they come over LOL!!
