Thats about the order I would look for also. I have a 2000 Diesel with 200K no problems at all with it. I would love to get a newer one but the $$$ it would take to trade offsets knowing what I have. I know where I can get a 2005 Limited diesel rollover cheap & I have a 2000 5.4 gas I could use to build it with but man thats alot of work!!

Last one I did was only a three day project. 89 7.3l diesel 4x4 tree fell on cab and a little rusty $1000. 91 2wd gas engine motor junk $900, rust free texas truck. I now have a awesome rust free diesel 4x4 for less than $2500.
Of course if you don't have the shop or some experience I can understand.
I am currently doing a body swap. Got a rolled 2002 PSD Ex and a 2000 2wd 5.4L Ex. Body from the 5.4 is going on the Diesel chassis. Let me tell you it is no picnic!!! There are wiring harness differences between the 2000 and the 2002, and between the Gas and Diesel. Not to mention differences in the A/C units, body noise insulation (less in the 2000 gas model), etc. I will have to fabricate a set of ports thru the firewall for the harnesses to pass through and seal. Totally different between the two.
It will be worth it when its done, but it is not as easy as I thought it would be. I'm using a 2-post lift, which helped alot.
To the OP: sorry about the Hijack - good luck on your search. If you want diesel, I would look for a 2002 or 2003 7.3L, or a 2005 6.0L. Just my opinion though. I had to buy a wrecked one to get it in my budget. Now I'm spending tons of sweat equity!
Yep, same problems with the two I switched over. You should have all the parts just remove and replace. Any holes that will need to be drilled shouldn't be a big deal with the other one to copy. Yes I had to replace the whole dash and all wiring.
Its still "easy" compared to replacing quarter panels, roof skins, and doors, etc. Then repainting everything.
Yeah its easy just lots of work. What is different on the firewall from 2000 to 2002? port for wiring? I know the difference for 7.3 to 6.0, the ecm is inside on the 6.0 & behind the battery on 6.0, the holes in the firewall are different but still an easy fix.
This is all great info. Looking for 2wd simply because I wont have any need for 4wd and dont want the overhead.
Sorry for the 200AD typo..lol
My needs are for limited towing duties, but I mostly put a lot of miles on a vehicle and looking for something that can take it plus get good hwy miles. Saw some other posts on being careful about getting 6.0L diesel... have to make sure you get it in the right model year.
Does someone mind explaining the "forged rods" comment in a previous note? would like the latest model year I can get, but not opposed to an 03 if it is the right choice for diesel and dependability.
