I've done some searching on here and unable to find where people who have converted there excursion to run propane put there tanks and how many gallons the tanks are, if you could post the location and a picture that would be great!

I think that jhouge is the only one that has gone to a propane conversion.(but I could be wrong)
I'm sure he could chime in and answer some of your questions.

Reason: because
The tank is installed in the rear cargo area. Here in Norway we don't use the rear seat row, so the cargo area is a perfect location for the tank.
My tank is 180L (47,5 gallons). I have covered the tank with some plywood so I don't brake any hoses or damage the tank.
I just returned after a 3500 km trip. I had a propane average of 2 liters/10km doing around 60 MPH on CC. Not bad at all compared to gasoline. After all, propane is half the price.

Reason: Adding pics
If I calculated this right 2l/10km is equal to 6.2137mi/.52834gal or roughly 12 mpg on propane. Someone will have to give us a price for propane compared to gasoline to see the savings.
This mornings prices at the gas station I use:
-gasoline $2,50 per liter or $9,45/USG
-propane $1,23 per liter or $4,65/USG
That is if I managed the conversion..
The benefit is not better MPG but cheaper fuel.

Reason: Add info
I asked the local supplier where I get propane for heaters - albeit we buy it normally by the lb., but her implied "per gallon" would come to like $2.12. Could that be accurate?
I wouldn't do the conversion myself - mainly because I don't want a live explodable bomb in my cargo area (not that a gas tank is much better) but because I wouldn't want to give up the cargo room, nor wonder where the hell I would get a fill when taking trips. My assumption is that this is a good idea where applicable, and when fuel prices were lower - all fuels, there was a cost analysis that made sense (and maybe still does internationally where gas prices are consistently higher). Not much different than me thinking the PSD was the way to go over the V-10, and in todays market, that too has proved fairly innacurate, or at best - almost even.
In Norway and some European countries, LPG is quite popular. New propane pumps are popping up all over Norway now.
For me there is 2 arguments for running on propane:
1. Half the price of gasoline
2. Environment. Less pollution than gasoline (need arguments to drive this lovely beast these days...)
I just had a trip to visit my mum. She lives some 1500km's from Oslo.
The LPG stations are close enough to run Norway from south to north on propane.
The trip was half the cost of what I would have used driving on petrol.
As a matter of fact, I came down to the same cost as a Volvo 740 estate.
