Yesterday I replaced the Rotors, bearings and brake pads on my '77 F100 2wd. I had to compress the calipers ALOT because my old brakes were toast! Im pretty sure the truck sat for awhile before I bought it because the pads looked baaad and rusted, as well as the caliper and rotor. Anyways, my issue... I bled the brakes and took it for a drive after the job was done and it was pulling to the left BAD. So I parked it and noticed my driverside brakes were smokin'. The wheel spun fine before I pressed the brakes, its like the brakes arent releasing. The passengerside brakes are fine. Is my caliper bad? I was able to compress the caliper with the bleeder screw closed with a C clamp which leads me think its not the brake hose. Right? Help please!
Thanks,
Jerry

My guess is the caliper. Sometimes the dust boot can tear causeing water and other debris to get in there and rust the piston a little. Then when you compress it, they can basically seize or drag really bad. Just pull the cailper off and rebuild it, might as well do both and hit them with a coat of paint while your at it too.
Ford and Chryslers are famous for bad calipers ! Saw too many in my repair days . I used to rebuild them but it's actually cheaper to buy from NAPA and ask for a " LOADED " Caliper assy . Ed Shaver

"loaded" means that they come with new pads.
Can you still reuse the brake pads you just bought?
I bought a rebuild kit from Autozone yesterday for 2.99. Its the rubber boot and a rubber circle. This cant be too hard. right?
If the bore is rusty and pitted I wouldnt try to overhaul it. Also make sure the caliper slide easy or one of the brake pads will wear out faster than the other.
To remove the piston place a piece of wood in the caliper and hit it with the air hose blow gun.
When you installed the caliper, were you sure not to twist the hose? If it is twisted you will bw able to push fkuid to the caliper (high pressure) but the pressure will not release.
Once you removed the caliper again the hose would probably go straight and you were able to compress it again.
Man I just went and bought new calipers. They're cheap. I didnt realize how inexpensive they were. $40+ bucks before $11 core charge for both calipers at autozone. Im replacing them today. I tried rebuilding the one caliper and it wouldnt come out, i ended up breaking the piston in half. lol. Thanks for yalls input! Ford Trucks Forever!
