Hello, I am a brand new member, and I am hoping that someone might know the answer to my question. I am currently restoring a 1978 F-150 and I plan on stripping the cab completely, but the VIN placard in the door looks like hell...it is partially peeled off, and it would stick out like a sore thumb on a freshly done cab. My question is: Does anybody know who you contact to get a new VIN sticker? Or is it even possible to get a new one at all?
This is not the VIN "placard" as you call it. It's the "Safety Standards Certification Label."
Besides the VIN, this label has only a few items of infomation.
The VIN and codes for the COLOR, MODEL, BODY, AXLE, TRANS and etc., are on the Warranty Plate, which is located on the face of the left door below the latch.
It's possible that you may be able to get a duplicate of this label from martiauto.com, as Ford no longer supplies it.
Thanks for the info!!! I was not aware that the VIN plate was located on the drivers door...that would explain the two holes that are located under the latch. The previous owner must have removed it, because it is no longer there. I guess my next task will be trying to locate a new VIN plate to replace the one that is missing.
Marti Does reproduce both the certification label and the metal VIN plate. I had both of mine reproduced and the quality was excellent. He also has the special rivets to attatch the VIN plate to the door. www.martiauto.com
