Eight new injectors
I have been running a guesstimate 50% biodiesel mix for 7k miles. I damn near ran out of fuel and filled up with diesel then a day later the truck just about died ( rough idle, black smoke, no power) but I got it home. Did a lot of reading trying to analyze the issue. Cleaned the EGR with no luck so it came down to just deciding to start with a clean slate. The first step was checking wire harnesses, then replace injectors. FICM would be next if necessary.
I just installed all new injectors in my driveway and the truck is running great. The job went very smooth completely due to the forum contributions from Bismic, Matt, nccpartsman, Brickie (just joined socal chapter!) and all the other posters. Also the information on restarting was very helpful. It was cool after cranking a little while when the oil pressure needle shot up and the engine started perfect a second later. It runs like a new truck (although I've never had one to compare) very smooth and quiet.
I found new IH injectors on ebay, $129, and felt confident with the part #'s from bismic's post on injectors. Again, this forum is an incredible resource. Probably saved me $1200 - $1500.
When cash is more available I plan on the regulated return and fuel pressure/boost gauge mods. Also have the parts for the coolant filter system just need to fab a bracket.
Sorry for the long post just wanted to say thanks and encourage other newbies to go for it and do it. All the info is here!
