73-79 Long Travel Suspension?

Has anyone done long travel on a 73-79 truck? I've heard of extending the I-Beams on the front? What all has to be done as far as fabrication work to make everything work properly? Also does anyone have any pictures of one with long travel on it? Just wondering how well these trucks would handle a prerunner type suspension, and how hard the build would be. What opinions does everyone have on long travel on these trucks? Any info and answers are greatly appreciated!
Thanks,

You can get almost anything fabricated at any custom welding off road shop, look around your area and go talk to them on what you want done and they can weld something together for you. For instance check these guys out, http://www.wicked-creations.net/, by the way if you plan on jumping your truck or hitting whoopees at a descent high rate of speed, long travel suspension is the way to go.

I'm not really lookin to do it on my truck, but my friend was lookin at one like mine to do this on. i just helped him do a bolt on long travel setup on his 98 tacoma and it's a pretty sweet ride with the new suspension! He's lookin for one like mine now. Would it be better to do it on a 4WD Hi-Boy? Or a 2WD truck?

He's planning on caging his tacoma and racing it and building the ford as a chase truck so than he'll need a 2WD to keep up? Have you seen a 73-79 with this setup?

I just checked out that site and that's almost exactly what I'm looking for! I also saw that they sell a 3" front lift which includes extended i-beams, do the i-beams need to be longer for a lift? Or is that just for doing a long travel suspension setup?

It's a matter of geometry. Longer arms will provide a greater amount of travel without the negative affects of camber changes during the suspension cycle.
Longer beams are often very necessary when they are bent for even greater lifts. When they are bent they lose length, so naturally they have to be lengthened.

Wider beams also provide a greater track width which provides a more stable platform. Wider is better.

The trucks in those videos are exactly what I was hopin to find! Very impressive! I'm gonna have to do some research on them to find out what all was done to those trucks and how! I wonder where they got the fenders? Or if they were custom made just for them.

Ford 2000 is wearing one off custom glass. That is a one piece front end.

Dozer is pimpin Auto Fab stuff. Re-visit thel ink above and look at all of the glass fenders.

Insider info. If you wait for a little bit, brand new glass fenders with 5" flares might be availabe soon. Dentside stuff is limited but the popularity is forcing builders to provide some stuff.

who is gonna be produicing some glass?
I bet auto fab if they have not alwready made them might. Or i bet fiberworks would to if they had a little demand. I think these trucks are getting more popular in the desert community.

Rumor has it that some molds are being built now. Not AutoFab, they are content with the stuff they have,
Unfortunately it will have to be a pioneer that builds them as the demand is not high enough as of yet. Perhaps the demand is there, but we dentside owners just dont have much to choose from.
Heard from the grapevine that a new one piece is about to hit the streets as well.
Will post more as I hear or can confirm. All just a rumor right now.
