Eaverybody i talked to said egr valve so i pulled it and cleaned it it did the same thing so i went bye a new one still did the same thing. When i unplug the egr valve it runs fine the turbo is just really loud the dealer told me that is becouse the egr valve is putting back pressure on the turbo. Are you still under warranty (5 yrs from purchase date and under 100k miles)?

Do you have any mods?

Do you have the equipment to read codes? If not take it to Autozone (or similar) and see if they can pull any codes.

Just confirming - you did get a new EGR valve? how much soot and gunk was on the old EGR valve? Did you clean the MAP sensor hose and EBP tube also?

No mods on the truck at all yes the old egr valve was prety dirty. And yes i am out of waranty. The thing i dont understand is that it runs fine when the egr valve is unpluged other than the turbo being a little louder. But soon as you plug the egr valve back in it starts puffing black smoke agin only when im excelerating normal tho if i punch it it runs fine its only if i take it easy on the take off and when i get to a steady speed it doesnt smoke at all but you can hear the turbo surging.

I hate to guess - so get the codes read if possible!

OK - now here's my guess:

2003-05 Various Running Problems, Check Engine Light; New EBP Sensor:
Trucks built before 1-17-05 that exhibit buck/jerk, hesitation, lack of power, stalling, stumble, black smoke, surging, rolling idle, changes in engine sound at idle or when driving at a steady speed, or with the trouble codes P2263 or P0299, may have an exhaust backpressure sensor signal that is incorrect or erratic. A revised EBP sensor is available if this is found to be the case. Part number 4C3Z-9J460-A. Broadcast Message 3815.
Normal EBP signal reading should reflect atmospheric pressure with the key on/ engine off. Typically, this is 14.7 PSI/0.88-0.9 volts at sea level, decreasing one PSI/0.10 volt for every 2000 feet of elevation. It should be within 0.5 PSI of BARO and MAP sensor pressure signals.

You might check your EBP tube and MAP sensor hose for pluggage (as previously suggested).

Do you know when your engine was manufactured? The date is on the FICM.

Also, anytime someone gets some surging, it is worth a quick try to see how it runs with the ICP sensor unplugged.

I have 2003 F-350 6.0L. I am having the same problems you were talking about (buck/jerk, hesitation, lack of power, stalling, stumble, black smoke, surging, rolling idle, changes in engine sound at idle or when driving at a steady speed) Where would the EBP sensor be located on the engine???? Is it also called EGR System Pressure Sensor????

Facing the side of the motor on the drivers side look at the font of the valve cover. On the drivers side you will see a tube coming up from the side of the valve cover. On the top of the tube you will see an electrical connector. That is the EBP sensor. Below the coolant reservoir and behind the master cylinder and mounted to the valve cover.

ICP sensor - injector control pressor sensor

Old style - below the turbo and hard to get to.

New style - passenger side valve cover and easy to see and easy to get to.

The reason I asked about your engine build date was because if yours was built BEFORE Sept 23, 2003, then it does not use the EBP sensor IF you have had a flash upgrade in the last 4 years or so.
