First I'll get the particulars out of the way, 93' F250 460 ZF 5spd. I'm getting 7-8 mpg unloaded driving it mildly (after doing a complete tune-up and checking timing). Ran the codes engine running, 53 and 63 tps either shorted or open.
EEC voltage good, tps return voltage good. Checked the resistance engine not running, got 3.9K ohms with the plate closed (Haynes manual states range is 3K - 4K), checked with plate WOT and got 650 ohms (Haynes manual states 350 ohms).
Should I replace it ?
btw, I have removed the air pump, diverter valve and associated hoses but, as I have read here, it should not have any impact on mpg.
Other thoughts are appreciated. Thanks!
eta, wanted to add that the tps is not adjustable.
Yes change the TPS. Everybody forgets that it's not just the fully closed and open measurements that matter on the TPS, in fact it's just as important that it vary smoothly from closed to open with no glitches or dead spots.
