[updated:LAST EDITED ON 18-Dec-02 AT 09:29 PM (EST)]Hey put me down on the "Thanks to Ken and all who work on this thing List" - in truth!! Also on the "addicted to it list"-was a little worried. It has been such a big help, I think I need to compile a list of all the things it has helped me with - Power Windows that are specifically for a 1967 F100!! headed of problems with E Brock heads, the AOD for FE's, wow it's helped with so many things, so thanks to all, and when my truck is finally ready to show off, hopefully it'll help me sell all the stock parts I took off (I Beams, front drum brakes, old gas tanks, etc.) and all the extra aftermarket stuff that didn't work out or shouldn't have been ordered in first place (I have like 8 shocks, 3 starters, etc., etc.). Merry Christmas Ken. Trevor the CACWBY in WI. :-X12
Ken, I'm curious to know what your hardware setup is. Do you provide your own server or does some service host it? If this is a DIY setup, what server software are you using and what hardware?
Our own server. We outgrew what most hosting companies can offer at a reasonable monthly rate.
--Tyan Tiger 2466-4M motherboard with on board 3Com 10/100 Ethernet controller
--Netgear 10/100 Ethernet controller
--Dual AMD Athlon 2000-MP CPUs (used to be 1800MPs)
--2 gigabytes RAM
--52x CD-ROM
--1.44meg floppy drive
--Rackmount server case
--4 15K RPM IBM 18gig Ultra160 SCSI hard drives (FAST!!)
--1 40 gigabyte Maxtor IDE hard drive (this is a backup drive, not used for actual live storage)
--LSI MegaRAID Enterprise 1600 Ultra160 caching RAID controller (4 channel controller with lots of on board RAM and battery-backed up cache)
--remote power cycle
Wow - $1000 to mirror - I knew this site was big, but wow, it must be really huge!
Sounds like you are running some pretty serious & heavy duty equipment there Ken.
Best of luck and keep up the good work!

Ken, You sound like a real PC jock. I'm impressed by your choices in hardware and software. I'm curious to know what bit of hardware failed? Also, what sort of RAID are you running ( RAID 5, RAID 0/1 aka RAID 10)? Those SCSI HDD are pretty expensive. I used to be pretty good with the Mylex RAID stuff, that was fast, too.
You say you went from 1800-CPU's to 2000-CPU's, is that what blew?
I hope you are using good heatsink compound on the CPU's. The pad of stuff that comes on new heatsinks is worthless. My son and I use MEK to clean the factory stuff off and put on "Techspray" #1978-DP silicone free heat sink compound. I have seen that factory heatsink compound take out several CPU's.
Thanks for using FTE!

Boards like this can be a full time job, I used to be the admin for the local community college. I teach there now. We use php, linux, apache and MySql as well. Good stuff, and it's free!
