changing trans fluid

changing trans fluid

i have a quick question i askd my buddy whos got a 99 250 and he tells me you want to change your atf in intervals and not just out of the blue.i bought an 03 about a month ago and the fluid has seen better days and i have no clue what that guys intervals were so is it ok to change and if so what is some good stuff to use?

I'm confused what you are saying as different intervals. Does he want you to change the trans fluid at different times or just change the oil and drive it and change it again as like a flush?

If the fluid looks bad then change it! Yes you need to to change your fluid as scheduled but if the fluid looks bad then change it to help keep up the viscosity. Keep your transmission alive, keep it lubed!

If you just bought a 03,I would change ALL the fluids!

You don't know the previous maintenance history,and it will give you a baseline for your future maintenance schedule.

30,000 mile intervals under normal conditions. Always change when dis-colored or burnt.

LIke stated above, go ahead and change it since you just bought the truck and not ure about the mileage on the fluid. Like Whitey Ford posted - 30K on dino fluid - 50-60K on Synthetic.

yea ok just makin sure bc he was actin like it wasnt smart to change it out of schedule thanx for clearing that up
