I have checked the voltage and it is good. I did no harm with all of my "cleaning". All I was doing was sharing my excitement about getting it working. Not in a million years was it my intention to have a discussion about who's right or wrong, etc... In the future I will be sure to keep this stuff to my self and go back to just reading other peoples posts when I need an answer. I would appreciate it if a mod would just delete my thread.

I think everyone here would like to have factory gauges that actually meant something.

But, the ammeter on it's best day, the needle should hardly move.

Everytime I get in my truck I play the game of where is the needle for the TEMP gauge going to stop today or how far of a swing will the oil pressure gauge accomplish today. Those two are more like "weather gauges", better at telling the current weather than they are at telling engine stats.

So, we are no doubt, "glad" you did something to get the gauge to actually move, but at the same time if the gauge is moving, something is usually wrong.

I'm not really concerned with whether or not you are "glad" I got my ammeter to move. It is doing what is supposed to. It's not like it's just randomly swinging back and forth. When the truck is idling it will stay steady, when I give it some gas it will move a little bit towards the C, when the engine is off it does nothing, with the engine off I can turn the lights on and it will move towards the D.... You see where I'm going with this? It's working just like I always remembered it. And since when is cleaning rust and corrosion off an electrical connection a bad thing? That's what all of my cleaning consisted of. I didn't just go under the hood with a pressure washer or something ridiculous in hopes that I happened to clean the magic connection to my ammeter.
I will make this my last comment about all of this because it has gotten so far away from my original intention of letting everyone know that I got my ammeter working and how happy I was about it. If I could go back I would have kept it to myself.

guys no reason to get personal here.

The OP's gauges are working like the engineers intended and he is happy and told what he did.

Thank you for chiming in here. That is all this was meant to be. I certainly didn't mean for it to end up the way it did. I do apologize for my behavior. The main thing here is that I am still happy to see the old ammeter working again! Thanks again

Thanks dhigh45. Tinkering with my truck on a rainy day or a sunny day with nothing else to do is one of my favorite things to do. It seems like there is always something I can do to make it just a little bit better. Actually I have lots left to do on this old thing but sometimes it's just the little things that mean the most. This truck, my dad, and my childhood are all tied up into one great big memory. My dad passed away in 94 and my childhood is long gone so this truck really helps to bring back some good times.
