I am in need of two of them. I tried to order from Jeff's but they said they are on an indefinate backorder. Is there any other place t\I can try besides junk yards?
Also, i got a new aftermarket tailgate and the passenger side fits and closes nicely. On the drivers side, the latch doesnt even hit the striker! Any ideas?
Good luck with that aftermarket tailgate. They are a giant POS. I put one on my '78 and in 2 winters it rusted out, as where the outer skin sepereated from the frame.
Thanks for the help. They have the part listed, not I just need to check if they actually have them.
I agree about aftermarket panels being a POS, but they are better than what I had. I finished installing all the hardware tonight, minus the torsion brackets, my new problem lies with the window...
When I try to put it down, it goes all the way down except for about 4 - 5 inches and then it stops like it is jamming or bottoming out. I checked to make sure the window is the track and it is. Nothing is hitting the bottom of the window. I am just puzzled, I cant see anything obvious that is hitting or jamming it. I tried to "assist" it by puching down while someone tried to lower the window, but now it is stuck, wont go up or down.
My guess would be, when you replaced the hardware you don't have the window tracks adjusted correctly,..loosen up the two bolts on each side of the tailgate and put the window down and then tighten up the tracks with the window in the down position, in some cases with aftermarket parts such as your gate,...the holes sometimes aren't in the correct spot, you may need to make a hole or two bigger,..hopefully it is just a mis-alignment problem,...if it is jammed now ,you will probably have to assist it up like you did going down
If you are looking for the two brackets that hold the bar to the bottom of the tailgate, I have two. Brand new, Ford sticker on them. I bought from JBG but did not need them. Family illness delayed the project a couple of months then did not need them. Too late to return them.
about the tailgate not closing on one side: try twisting the whole thing-there were no spot welds holding the skin to the shell on my aftermarket one, so it was just never aligned right, i disconnected the cable from the side that closed right and sat on the gate- that aligned the darn thing. stick some little welds on the seam and paint it. other than that, it seemed to be rather good quality to me.
