I am driving to FL tommorrow morning to pick up an 08 bed for my 01 and I have a few questions.... I am pretty sure of this question, but I want to ask to be safe anyway... Will it fit?
I know from what alot of people say it will be a bitch to get the bed bolts out and the yard told me today that they were having hell getting them out of the 08 bed. Any tips for that (might not be that bad because I think my bed has been off before). Also, I have a trailer I was going to take, but I am kinda worried about how to put the bed on the trailer with out bending it up. Should I just take mine off tonight and go over with no bed and drop that one on at the yard? How long should I expect it to take to get mine off, and will it be a quick enough operation getting the new one on that I can do it in the parking lot? Thanks for the help guys
i have an 08 bed on my 03, the 03 is similar to the 01, so i think it should fit. AND it looks good, not mismatched IMHO.
I didn't put it on myself, but as you said it can be quite difficult to remove the old one.
You might want to buy a new set of the "clips" and bolts so that you have a fresh set to work with at the yard. I don't think you would want to put it on a flatbed truck as it would probably damage the sheet metal which is lower than the bits that rest on the frame rails. It is only 6 bolts, so in theory it should be quick to put on. You might need to get creative and grind/torch off the old ones depending on what shape they are in. Could be long night ahead of you. Definately soak it in PB blaster to help things out. Also have a few of those torx bits handy (not sure what size, somebody else will probably chime in with that info) as you will probably break a few off in the process.
Good luck, let us know how it turns out.

Reason: correcting diction...
assuming the trailer u have has a flat load floor i'd just mount it with the wheelwells facing up and strap it down from side to side throu the lowest point in the wheelarch...
not much chance of bending the boxside that way...
spray the mounting bolts on ur truck with penetrating fluid for a few days in advance.. it will def. help if theres any chance the bolt will come loose..
I would haul it upside down as well. I've hauled them upside down on the bed of the truck I was driving, just throw a few 4x4's across the bed and tie it down Living in the desert we don't have a lot of issues with rust, but I would use the PB-Blaster and if that didn't work you can put a little heat on the clip-nuts with a propane torch and it will usually loosen them up.
All years of Super Duty beds are the same. Only the tail lights and tailgate changed in '08. The tail light openings didn't change though, so bed side sheet metal is the same.

Got my new bed on today.... Bed, tail gate, lights, and bumper. I got luckey enough that I got a bed thats green and my truck is green. Both are two tone. The 08 two tone line is lower and the green is a little lighter. I think I am going to paint the rest of the truck to match the bed.
There must be something different on the wheel wells between an 08 and a 01. If you buy the molded mud flaps for any truck between 01 and 07 the dealer number is not the same as the 08 and 09.
there the same bed. i had a 09 next to mine every thing except the tailgate and tail lights. the cab and doors look the same too. front ends all thats changed.
they change part numbers so they can charge more for the same part. they figure if you have $40,000 to buy a new truck you can spend more on the mud flaps. same with electrical. Ford has or had different calibration codes for senors. they were all the same part just they would switch a couple of wires around so if you got the higher end package you paid more for the part. senors would have different resistances too. the part cost ford the same $. but you paid more. look at part store computers same part numbers differant price for differant years. My suzuki motorcycle. 3 differant models all used the same brake pads. 3 differant prices depending on what model you asked for. KZ400, DRZ400s And DRZ400sm.
