pay close attention to the torque spec. do not overtighten the intake stick with the shop manual. i have used the end gaskets and i have used silicone. silicone is the perferred method. one tip that i use is take two of the carb studs from the 2v intake and before placing the intake in place take one stud and start it in the back left bolt hole and the other in the first bolt hole on the right front. now you can sit the intake on the engine using the pre placed studs as a guide. start the other bolts and then remove the studs and put them in your tool for the next time. i would also pre glue the thermostat in the housing. i use a weather strip glue and use just enough to hole it in place.
Thanks Teschwab as always, I never even thought of the carb studs idea. The deal with that end pieces are, if your block is remanufactured, or has had the deck machined, the the heads will sit slightly lower, and the end pieces will try to make the intake sit just a bit too high, so the silicone is the best way to go. In fact, the silicone is probably the best way anyway, because it places the weight of the manifold directly on the mating surface, so it'll never leak, even with no torque on the bolts. TK
