Question Mach 1 Intake

How would a 69 Mach 1 351W original intake perform compared to an Edelbrock performer or similar aftermarket intake?

Mach 1 Intake

it seems that i replied recently to a question about a 351w 4v intake. the cast iron 4v intake from 1969 for the 351w is a very good piece. how would it compare to say a edelbrock performer? it would compare very well. the factory unit works real well in the 1000 to 4800 rpm range. the edelbrock unit is lighter and benefits from newer technology, but is it 170 dollars better than the 1969 factory 4v intake............... i wouldn't spend the money thinking that you are going to feel a difference. now if you goals were say 6000 rpm and you had a good cylinder head bolted to this 351w, i would say that the 69 4v isn't the best choice. the edelbrock rpm intake or other brand designed for the higher rpm range would be a better choice. most of fords 4v intakes that were used on small blocks were designed to make maximum torque in the lower rpm range. the boss 302 and 351c 4v being the exception to the rule. hope this helps.
