Just got around to figuring out why I don't have emergency brakes or rear brakes. Guess this is a hazard of buying a used truck.
Anyone have any idea where I can find the parts to replace what I'm missing. Which is everything, on both sides. Called the local yards and no one seems to have anything or if they do they don't want to tear apart a good axle for me.
A good turning, and maybe a drum resurface, and you should be good to go...Shoes, and hardware for the inside parking brake... Hot rods have the same setup...
Which axle is that you're looking to find parts for? I've seen a Dana 60 posted here in the LA Craigs List classifieds - it looked to be a complete axle, I don't remember if the brakes were still on it or not. I'll see if i can find it again.
My apologies - it had the brakes, but turned out to be a front axle. Sorry for the false alarm - but Craigs List in different areas might not be a bad place to check. (Cut and paste is a beautiful thing for searching multiple areas within driving distance.)
Wow, are the front brakes OK? Betcha they've been getting hot up there with nothing going on in back... That thing had to have made a heck of a racket when that rotor came apart a while ago, it's sad the way some people treat their trucks...
It's been a while since I bought the e-brake hardware, but as I recall, they're sold as a kit, so you should be able to get everything you need. Rebuild or replace the calipers, replace the pads, and if the slides aren't completely free, I'd replace them too, they're known to stick on these trucks. Oh, and rotors too, LOL, dont think you're gonna be turning those... Biggest PITA with this job is going to be getting what's left of the rotor off the hub... Lots of penetrant, an air chisel, and alot of patience! Good luck!
Oh, and I'd bet the guy never used the e-brake either, so the cables are 99% likely to be seized, most people just leave them like that, especially with an auto trans, since no one ever uses them anymore. They'd still probably work to apply, but the springs wont be strong enough to relieve them on their own... Matter of fact, that could be how they disintegrated, got hot and brittle from the e-brake being stuck on...
That poor truck... bet the guy never changed oil either...
I have seem this happen. You have all the parts but the brake rotor did explode. Looks like it has been that way for a long time. The parking brake shoes should be replaced too but all the parts are there. That caliper may be frozen and its the reason for the rotor issue. www.rockauto.com
