That rotor is not doing anything but going along for the ride. Did the drum/front part of the rotor come off when you pulled the wheel or was it already that way?

if you look on the left of the flange that sits between the wheel an axle, you'll see a piece of jagged cast iron.

Not sure what shattered the hat, but judging by the rotor, the "fix" was to just bandsaw cut the rotor off of the hat to keep the brake pedal from hitting the floor.

I wouldn't be completely surprized if there was a spot weld somewhere to prevent the rotor from falling out of the caliper.

My first thought was how the hell that rotor was staying where it was but welding it in would solve that!

If you'll notice, the dust cover is also worn away (it has been contacting the wheel)

The resolution isn't perfect, but that may be a rusted weld where the rotor meets the dust cover...

I see it all now, like I said; I never had one apart. It;s definetly not all there and the main part of the rotor is just sitting there. I guess the hat/drum disenigrated and is on the shoulder of the freeway somewhere.

I think if you go ahead and remove the damaged parts:
(1) Calipher
(2) Rotor
(3) All brake hardware
(4) Backing Plate
(5) Dic Pads
(6) Emg. Brake shoes

Replace these parts:
All associated parts above.

All parts you need should be at your local Auto Parts store.
This will get you fixed up and it is NOT as bad as it looks. I would guess about 150.00 per-side and you will have NEW REAR BRAKES.

Now once the rear brakes are repaired you "better get ready" because Sir I can assure you the FRONT ONES WILL NEED IT.

Looks like some of the parts have already been removed Seriously; It doesn't look like that much of a job.

I would assume the e-brake was applied and released but didn't actually release, superheated the little drum and it disenegrated.

Guess I should have stated a little more in my original post. Fixing it in the rain didn't put me in the best mood when I was posting.
This truck, while bought cheap enough has been nothing but replace parts . Drivetrain seems ok so far the fluid change was done as soon as I got it home. When I say fluid I mean every one. Oil looked like tar and the tranny fluid looked like muddy water. Diffs were both low. e.t.c. Plus we had the whole stacked block lift issue. https://www.ford-trucks.com/forums/8...uper-duty.html

Don't ask me how I missed the brakes being an issue. I got hung up on the really obvisous stuff I guess. It seemed to stop fine, until the other day when a genius in a Prius stopped, and I mean came to a complete stop, in the middle of the freeway right in front of me. because he missed his exit an got confiused, I was right behind him with a dump trailer loaded from remodel job on the way to the dump.

Let me tell you it gets scary fast when there are no rear brakes and you have 8000 lbs in a trailer behind you and no place to go except the shoulder and you're doing 70. In hind sight I have good insurance I should have just taken him out and saved someone else the trouble.

On the way back from the dump I picked up a shake in the front end, after just doing ball joints I assumed something had come loose. Not so much, it was a hub going south. So we now have new hubs to go along with the 4 new rotors and calipers, I decided since I was this far I might as well just go ahead and do the calipers too while I had it apart.

On the rears the entire e-brake assembly is missing on both sides, and btw both sides looked the same. Here is an IPB of the assembly for those that don't know. Price from Ford is something like $334. per side for the "kit". While I'm a believer in e-brakes, you get that way after you break the parking pin in a tranny once, I think I'm going to deal with the miss I've picked up when it's under load first.

Seriously you should be able to get most all those parts at any parts store like Autozone, Advance Auto Parts and etc. except maybe the backing plate.
