I was underneath my truck yesterday just being nosey and I noticed a small amount of oil. It was mostly around the back area of the oil pan. There was a spot that looked like it was about to drip right where the trans mounts up the the motor. It was thick and black. I checked my oil to make sure it wasn't low and it was just the opposite. It looked to be about 1/2 inch above the plastic up on the metal. I "short sticked" it as best I knew how and that put it to the top of the plastic piece. At first I thought it might just be some blow by, but I thought these new diesels were like a closed system where everything was burnt up in the exhaust. I've only had the truck for about 2 months/2,000 miles. It has 14,500 on it now. It's a 1/07 built 08 f350 cc 4x4 lariat dually. Just looking for any suggestions or thoughts here? I love the truck and plan on keeping it for a long time. Just want to make sure I haven't bought someone else's problem here.
I would take in a sample of the oil for analysis and make sure everything is ok there. Low antifreeze and high oil readings definately scare me a little. In the meantime I would fill the antifreeze and check it quite often to make sure it's not still going down and check the oil as well to make sure it's not still going up. IF they are still both moving and there's any coolant in your oil then I would say you definately have a head gasket issue. Hope everything works out ok.

Thanks for the quick reply. Where/how can I get an oil analysis done? I thought I'd let the dealer do the 15k service and let them check out the leak issue, but I figured they wouldn't be too helpful in getting an oil analysis done for me. I've never done that before. Is there somewhere I should call and get a kit or something sent to me that I can send back in? Thanks again.
To be honest I am not sure where you would get it done in the US. There are lots of guys on here that have had theirs analysed so hopefully they can give you some better advise on that. Hopefully your oil was over filled when it was changed and the coolant was simply low because it always was but it's definately worth looking into.
Yes, hopefully someone will chime in on the oil analsis. Maybe I'm just a little overly worried, but like you said it's something to look in to. Especially when you put close to 40k in a truck!!
The leaks on the bell housing can be many different things, from bad sensor O rings leaking back and down the back of the engine, or as serious as a bed plate. I haven't heard of really any of the dreaded 6.0 bedplate and main seal leaks on the 6.4 but you never know.
The radiators were notorious for leaking on the earlier builds. I have had two replaced, and I have a job 2. Check around your radiator real good to see if you are getting any leaks.
My last one was a real slow, barely noticeable leak. I caught it cause every week my overflow bottle would be about a half inch low.
I just had a bed plate leak fixed, took about 3 weeks to do the work. It's a cab off repair so don't go in and check on your truck if you get this done. I was sick when I saw my truck cab separated from the rest of the truck. After the job it looks like there is a bunch of new stuff put on the entire bottom end, all new.

Well, I guess I should wait until after my camping trip in a couple of weeks before I schedule any work! Don't wanna be without the beast to pull my fiver!! That cab off repair is a scary thing! I hope I don't have to experience that! But at least I'm not paying for it at this point.
