Yesterday i checked out a 2000 psd and everything seemed fine until i noticed a "blow off" sound when i lifted my foot off the gas. Coming from turbo'd honda's it kind of sounded like a blow off valve, which i know it definately is not. Im sure it isnt the waste gate and it doesnt sound like compressor surge(it doesnt flutter). Its just a straight "pssssshhhh" sound.
I'm a little confused by your descriptiuon, did it just start doing the noise or was it doing it the entire time, how long have you had the truck, does it have an aftermarket intake, where are you located if you are local to me you can hear mine or someone else may offer if your close to the.

He said he just checked it out so I am assuming he is looking at buying the truck. Apparently he has not had it long.
What we need to know here if you think it has an aftermarket intake/filter setup. If it an open element filter then yes it is normal. It is the waste gate. You will also hear it between shifts.
When I put the 6637 open element filter on my wife's EX with the 7.3 I heard that noise. It almost sounded like it came from the floorboard or the tranny. Then with closer attention it was in fact coming from under the hood. The airfilter is now more exposed and allows you to hear the waste gate blowing off easier.
hey fellas. actually it DOES have an aftermarket intake where the filter is exposed. I'm guessing thats what it is. If i remember correcting it is a K&N. At the end of the filter itself it has this little clear thing i forgot what it says on it, but yeah thats the one that is on there. Im going to try to find a picture.
If it's a K&N you are going to want to take it off. They can be bad about letting dust into the intake tract which is very bad for the turbo, and the engine in general. In fact read this, used truck buyers guide before you sign on the dotted line.
The noise is normal. There is no blowoff or bypass valve so when you let off the go pedal the backpressure of air comes back out the intake. It's typical and nothing to worry about. With a more open element/intake than OEM it's more pronounced. Mine does it all the time with the 6637.
Better to check it now before you buy it. It may be fine, just make sure you pull the intake hose off and check for the tell tale sign of dust. If it's there, move on, that truck is ready for some serious potential problems, if it's clean and the blades on the compressor wheel look good, then you are good to go.
see the thing is, i live in sunny souther california. maybe i should have mentioned that. So im sure the truck hasnt seen much dust. The carfax shows that its been in my area its whole life.
I will definately still take a look at the compressor.
