I think I know the answer to my question, but want to run it by the more knowledgeable folk here anyway ...
I have a cold start issue (even in summer time 90+ degree heat). Truck runs rough & seem to be "skipping" until warmed up. After it's warm, everything is fine ... even on warm re-starts.
My OASIS says that the ECM received a Recall Flash "05E16" on 4/4/2006. Which flash do I have .. Buzz or Inductive Heating?
05E16 recall had to do with emissions, it was unrelated to injector cycling strategies. This is the line from the recall information:
REASON FOR THIS PROGRAM
On some of the affected vehicles, the on-board diagnostic (OBD) system may not properly monitor the performance of the emissions control systems, which may prevent a required illumination of the "check engine" light.
Given the condition you are describing, if you haven't had your pcm programmed since then you definetly need to have it updated.
OK ... I was thinking "05E16" was the "buzz" flash.
I agree, I need to get re-flashed with the latest ... anyone have experience with what dealers are charging to do this? Warranty will probably not cover me anymore due to a theft recovery status.

Usually rough running at cold start indicates injector issues however a failing FICM can also cause your symptoms. Depending on WHEN your PCM/FICM/TCM were reprogrammed will determine what calibration was installed. The inductive heating calibration will help injectors that have suffered from oil related problems like sludging however many of us in the field believe the strategy is hard on the FICM. FICMs suffer from charging system and battery concerns as well as power and ground circuit concerns that overwork and damage the DC-to-AC converters within the module.
Since your truck only misbehaves on cold start up I would lean toward injectors however as your diesel specialist I would want to perform a full diagnostic that includes checking the FICM and fuel supply system. Low fuel pressure and poor fuel quality are the number 1 cause of injector failures. The inductive heating calibration is effective for many trucks and as long as your performance issues are limited to cold starts only it may be all that you need... for now.

"... for now", . Ahh the joys of the 6.0.
Great reply there Doc. Thanks! The OASIS said that the truck was programmed on 4/4/2006 .. so I'm gonna assume that I don't have the latest inductive flash.
