Can someone please post the TSB for the revised fluid level in the degas bottle. I had my truck in a few weeks ago for small drops of coolant on the bottle and cycling of the fan. I suspected hg's or EGR cooler. However, the dealer diagnosed as faulty cap on the bottle. After the new cap, they filled to the max line. This weekend while towing, I again lost coolant and heard the fan cycling. I only hear the fan and get the puking while towing. It was only 70* outside and only 7-8k lbs load. I still think hg's but have no other symptoms to back that up. Could this just be something simple??? Is there a test kit I can get to test the fluid for combustion gas?
I think the TSB you are looking for is 06-3-8. If you will go to the Full Text TSB section of the forum and enter this number in the field labeled View By TSB Number you should be able to read the entire bulletin.
Coolant level too high or faulty degas bottle cap will definitely cause problems.
There are combustion gas test kits available. You could probably find one at NAPA.
Don't necessarily assume that the puking comes from blown head gaskets. There are several things which can cause puking which range from easy & cheap to fix to hard and expensive to fix. A good tech should be able to logically work through the list of possibilities and find the root cause to the problem. If the root cause wasn't the degas bottle cap it should be replaced after the root cause is fixed.
Making sure the coolant is at the proper level and the degas bottle cap is OK are the first two items on the list to check.

To know for sure, spend the money and get a Combustion Gas Tester off the internet. Best $45 I have spent on the X. Saved me a lot of money. I thought my HGs were bad but after I bought the test kit, tested the bottle and found no exhaust gas, I surmized that it was the dreaded clogged EGR cooler. I tolerated the minor puking by lowering the coolant level down to just where I could see it in the bottle. That was November 2008. In April 2009, the puking increased to the point that it happened when I would just drive to work in the winter. I tested the tank again and found a slight trace of exhaust gas. So I studded the motor without changing the HGs, back flushed the oil cooler and installed an upgraded EGR cooler. No more puking. I now have the coolant level set to the old MIN (pre-2005 sticker) mark, run my tuner at the next level, pull my 6000 lbs Scarab and 10,000 lbs dump trailer and have taken several trips on flat road and in the WV mountains. Has not even come close to puking once.

The same thing happened to me a year ago, only while towing. Yeah the first dealer said the same thing. I would suggest going to another dealer. ASAP. If they didn't know the TSB then I wouldn't let them work on my nore anyone elses truck!!
