i have read so much about things you can add once in a wile to add lubricity and i have a few questions.im new to the diesel thing and when my buddy said he was runnin his truck on used filtered atf i thought he was crazy. ive heard a quart once in a wile of new mercon-v or 2 stroke oil. i add about 10 oz of diesel kleen every fillup and try to find busy gas stations with several diesel pumps but i just want that added feeling of putting some good stuff in so if there are any suggestions on some good things to put in the tank id much appreciate it.

Reason: misspell
I'd be nervous about using any kind of used petroleum product. Mainly because there are additives in there not meant for fuel systems. Some people have good luck doing it, your mileage may vary. Diesel Kleen is pretty good, some use biodiesel as it adds a lot of lubricity and is a good solvent against varnish. There may be some debate on marvel mystery oil, though it's bottle says it doesn't meet the new emission standards I still like it. I would stay away from tranny fluid. I'm sure it burns fine and is an oil for lubrication, but has friction additives to work with clutch packs. Doesn't sound like anything I want in my injectors.
2 stroke engine oil works great, a couple guys on here convinced me to put 1 oz. per gallon in my truck and it ran very smooth and quieted the 'engine noise'. like they told me, ''2 stroke motor oil is made to burn''. i used supertech 2 stroke, its ashless. i liked it.
Been tempted to try the 2 stroke oil but never did. I run a 5% bio blend faithfully every week and a shot of DK hear and there and that works fine for me..quiets the motor up a bit and it purr's
DK may not be the best out there, but it's just so darn easy to get (and it's in my budget). Something's better than nothing and I add about 12oz of DK (grey bottle) every tank. SoCal seldom warrants the white bottle. Whether it works or not (definitely doesn't hurt), I think it does and that's what matters!
I had been using gray bottle Diesel Kleen every tank for a while, 1 oz per 4 gallons of fuel. It took a while, but I did notice decreased injector noise over time. I recently switched to Supertech (Walmart) 2 stroke oil just for grins and have been using 1 oz per gallon of fuel. My truck has actually got noisier on the 2 stroke slightly (more so when cold), and it may be coincidence but the first big trip with 2 stroke oil in the tank my MPG's were in the crapper big time. I've only ran it for a few tanks, but so far I'm not real impressed and I think I'll switch back to DK once I run out of 2 stroke oil.
I can say that Bio is the absolute best. You can pull in near empty with regular diesel, fill your tank with Bio (B20 is what I could get) and literally hear that fuel hit the injectors. It got ALOT quieter. However, at least around the Memphis area, it is harder and harder to find because the local suppliers couldn't make any money (and they were charging 20 cents more per gallon already.
I've had good results with DK over the last 2+ years. I gave up on Bio based on cost, loss of mileage/power, and difficulty to get. I actually started running Shell fuel and have seen a bit of a bump in mileage! It DOES cost a bit more, but since mileage goes UP, not DOWN, it's worth it. I just paid $2.49 the last tank, and $2.53 for this tank. I think RaceTrac & Walmart a few cents cheaper, but I like the results I'm getting with Shell + DK. Something to consider...
I have yet to see a scientific report as to why I need any of that snake oil. Mostly it is like the Castrol ad where they have 2 cars running and one burns up, etc, etc. All they can show is which additive gives more lubricity. They don't answer the important question of how much is really needed and what the point of diminishing returns is. Without that, all you are doing is taking a SWAG at it. IMO, these snake oils were meant to separate rubes from their money.
