If labels are right and bushing all fit, then it must be right.

Boots down. It's been many months since I got my 5100s but in each box was a small pamphlet. Reading through that confirmed that the Bilsteins were to be mounted boot down. I thought it was weird, but that's how they are designed to work, so so be it.

This board rocks. Mine came with no instructions. The rear installed fine - boot up, but I could not get the front installed. It never would have occurred to me to mount them boot down. I figured I'd just put the Bilsteins on the same way the Ranchos came off. Boy was I getting pissed. In fact, put the old ones back on. Sometimes, it's just the simply things that get you.

Thanks guys!!

Well it used to be exactly as Barry posted for that series of Billies. IDK if they have changed the design on the rear unit or not because it used to look like what Barry posted on the left. Also what the 6.0 poster posted up.

Are you sure you got the right part #? Not starting anything, just curious if there has been a change. I still have to buy my rear shocks.

I had the same question so I emailed the place that I bought mine. Here's his response below. I mounted mine boot down as the other way, the boot could fill and hold water down at the bottom zip-tied seal.
===========================

"...With the internal design of the Bilstein monotube gas shocks, it does not matter whether the shocks are mounted with the shock rod side up or down. There are some minor advantages in longevity and overall suspension effectiveness with the shock rod pointed down, and there are many instances where Bilstein has changed the orientation to take advantage of these minor improvements where there are no clearance problems. If there is an option, we recommend mounting the shock with the shock rod and boot pointing down, but in the grand scheme of things, there is no noticeable difference.

A little off thread, my fronts seem to bottom out if I hit the dip at the end of the drive a little too fast. Anyone have this problem?
