On my 66 4x4 I want to upgrade from the NP435/Dana 21 transfer case I have now. I have a line on a low mileage 78/79 Bronco NP435/NP205 setup. My question is, if the Bronco had a 351/400, my truck has an FE big block. Are there any differences in the NP435 between these two? Is the spline count and length on input shaft the same? Mounting bolt pattern?
I'm hoping the tranny is a bolt in, and I know I'll have to make something to get the NP205 t-case to fit, but I'm not worried about that.
It's a good package deal, and there is a big span between 66 and 78. I don't want to just get the transfer case, then find out the output shafts are a different spline count, or different length.
If the tranny is the same, then it should just bolt up to my bell housing. At least that's what I'm hoping.
I actually just bought it yesterday evening, couldn't pass it up. So when I find out I'll post my findings. It may not be for a while though.
> Why not just grab the 205 t-case? It will bolt in
The NP435 is basically a 2x4 transmission when attached to the Dana 21. It will not mate with any normal 4x4 transfer case.

If you find your clutch linkage ends up being a bit short after the swap, I posted a picture a few years ago of how I modified a 6" pipe nipple from the Home Depot to solve the problem. I think it was in the 67-72 forum.
