Post body swap

I have an 81 F150 thats rusted pretty bad so iam taking it down to the frame and sand blasting it and painting it.Putting a 351W in it with a c6 automatic thats is rebuilt..Now my question is the body that I got is a 92 F150 2 wheel drive, and what iam wondering about is the computer in the 92 ,what does it run because iam going with a high performance 351 with a stroker crank dont want a fast truck just pulling power and torque. How do I get around not using the computer I was told that it runs more than just the engine so if any one can give me some tips or info on the computer part please inform me thanks DAVE

The computer asks for speed input from the speed sensor that is measured from the tailshaft I believe if not its on the diff, if this is not there your line pressure will be very high, making it bang into gear real hard when the tranny tries to shift in all gears. an 82 wouldnt even have the wiring to do it. You would have if you rigged it up right is a fuel injected motor, which probably wouldnt run right. Your Intake manifolds are totally different, and it just wouldnt work. your 82 is not designed for it.

Not possible sorry the computer relies on to much input from other systems.

I don't see any reason why you would have to worry about it. The computer controls the engine and transmission only. The body electrical systems for lights and other non-powertrain items are unrelated to the engine computer.

Can any of the people saying it can't be done give specifics about why it wouldn't work?

I recommend using a Ford wiring diagram from both model years if you really are serious about doing it, the diagrams would answer alot of your questions.

Thanks for the info..Ill post some before and after pics when I get it done..A friend told me that if I went to the junk yard and got a fuel injection system out of a 92 with the comp that you cant build a real ratical motor, because the comp wont run it well so iam went with a 86 351 and the tranny and transfer case out of the 86 F250. I was looking for a 80 to 86 truck with a good body to do the swap and was having a little trouble but I found a couple down in Florida at a car lot for under 1000 then I came across this 92 and the price was rite the guy gave it to me becase the rear brake lines where rusted and the flange on the exhaust manifold was rusted off and someone told him 600 to 700 dollars to fix it so he gave me the truck (my father in law) so I put new lines on it and fixed the exhaust and been driving it around so that will become my new body ..Thanks for the info bgdave
