hey guys i got a 2000 ford excursion with a wierd problem. my fuel gauge is reading below empty completely bottomed out. and the overhead gauge tells me 0 miles to empty but the tank is near full!!! i keep putting gas in and the gauge dosent move any ideas on what may be wrong?
It souds as though the float is stuck. Try filling the tank about 1/2 if you have an idea how much fuel is in it. Maybe if the float is stuck the fuel will move around to unstick the float. I have an 03 and my over-head console stated acting up when I blew the fuse to the cigarette lighter. Check the fuse there. Actually check all fuses.
Then there is always a chance of a loose or broken wire between the tank and the gauge or even the gauge its-self.
The fuel guage in my 2000 v-10 failed a while back, so I drove without one, only to have the fuel pump fail a few weeks later.
I agree with UrbanXX- check all the fuses first, even a seemingly unrelated fuse can have weird effects. I found it impossible to get to the sending unit wiring unless you drop the tank- and it's a BIG tank...
