Newbie alert.... greetings
Just thought I would get the intro over with and bumble thru the site until I learn where to post what and such. I wouldnt surprise me if I havent posted in the wrong section.. but hey.... I am a newbie here.
I hope to be fairly active as I will be asking alot of questions that have been addressed a multitude of times and seek opinions ... again frequently asked. I have read alot of great articles and am piecing together the data to my questions but sometimes its nice to get a personal reply and keep it all in your own thread. Punk me if you want I understand.
I also have a Roush Mustang and my only other experience on a forum board.
looking for good online times, laughs, info and opinions. D
I think you will find this forum to be a very good place to gain knowledge about your truck. You will encounter a few knuckleheads that have to be overlooked but by and large the members are willing to share sound advice.
If you haven't already check out the Tech Folder, there is a ton of information on 6.0 PSD in that section. Also there is a search feature that will allow you to find information from older threads.
There are several reliability mods that you may want to research and consider implementing on your truck. If you do the recommended reliability mods and become **** (if you not already) about routine maintenance you will greatly enhance your chances of having a wonderful 6.0 experience. Maintenance is really a big key to preventing expensive repairs on these engines.
If he doesn't stop by later you should contact the user bismic. He has two massive Excel spreadsheets which contain alot of valuable information. He sent them to me via E-mail.
Did you get an Oasis report on your truck before buying? If not I would recommend getting one to find out if there have been any issues covered under warranty that you might need to know about in the future.
Edit -- By the way if your looking for opinions you have certainly come to the right place.
I think you will fnd that this site is a lot different than most. We dont "punk" people, we are a generally helpful spirited group of folks here. A little ribbing now and again never hurt...and remeber it goes oth ways.
Anyway just wanted to say hi, and I am here to help if and when you need it, and thats a great lookin trucck too.

Congrads on your new purchase, and like was stated MAINTENANCE! MAINTENANCE! MAINTENANCE! with the correct fluids and filters. Don't be afraid to be hard on the skinny pedal from time to time, gotta keep the turbo freed up. X2 on the reliability mods.

We do have some fun in here, share lots of info and opinions, and try to help each other out with solving 6.0 and general Super Duty issues. Heck, you won't even need the Super Duty forum with us around! I mean that, too.
Ford Trucks for Ford Truck Enthusiasts
I am researching and researching the threads. I certainly will have questions.
Cowboy65... Thanks for the heads up. The seller mentioned an issue with the turbo that he had a problem with. I dont know athing about the Oasis Report... what where how? I want this motor for the next 175k so all maintenance mods are on the to do list. Just need to research whats best and such ~ aka recommendations.
Sarge... Been reading a few of your posts... With hope I plan on that good ribbing back and forth. Just educate me and I wont mess with you too bad in the years to come

D8chumley... Thanks.. I was worried I might be the only knucklehead around with lots of posts ( coming soon
)Kep4... Where in Kali?
Thanks again for the welcome. I think I may have found a home... just need to orientate myself to the layout of the boards... its huge compared to the other I frequent.
Wondering how to get my mods in my sig when I post.....got a few other dodads to list and want to get started on the preventitive maintenance mods asap.
Be sure you check out the So Cal and Nor Cal forums. Some pretty good knucklehead activity in those as well.
Still trying to figure out the way to post signatures...aw....requires 25 posts huh? ok I can do that lol
Also to find out what the previous owner was talking about with the turbo see if your local dealer will run you an OASIS report. That will tell you all warranty work that has been done to it.
More than likely the turbo was rebuilt because it had some sticking veins. Its kinnda common for those of us with "Garage Queens"...yup guilty as charge officer.
I had to have mine rebuilt once and about a year later replaced. Totally my fault tho.
Thanks for joining up and maybe consider becomming a sponsor too, it will get rid of all the annoying adds, free sticker and tee shirt too.

From my research and first hand experience I think the following are essentials:
- Follow through will all routine maintenance requirements - this is huge for the 6.0 engine. I fall in with those who are conservative on maintenance issues, I change fluids even more often than recommended in many cases (i.e. oil ever 5K instead of 7.5K, coolant every 50K instead of 100K for first change)
- Use 5W-40 synthetic oil
- Only use OEM filters for oil, fuel, & air. Oil & fuel should be Motorcraft or Racor (who makes them for Motorcraft) and air should be Motorcraft or Donaldson (who makes them for Motorcraft). I order mine from Diesel Filter Online and save alot over what the dealership charges (http://www.dieselfiltersonline.com/).
- Use a fuel additive - like oil there are many on the market to choose from. I use Stanadyne Performance but recommend that you do research and decide which one best fits your needs.
- EGR valve - keep it clean and consider replacing with the newest design which you may already have. I think the new design can be identified by a pink dot on the actuator. You might also consider the latest flash upgrade which either eliminates or reduces (not sure which) EGR operation when idling.
- Avoid short hop trips and really open her up ever now and again (after everything has warmed up)
- Add a coolant filter - got my from Diesel Site (http://www.dieselsite.com/)
- CCV route - haven't done this yet but it's high on my list
- Add guages for critical components - at a minimum this should include fuel pressure, oil temp, exhaust gas temp, & transmission temp
Off topic here, but... I saw a good decal on the back of a tri-axle dump truck I was loading the other night, thinking about having one made for the back of my truck. It said " Life's too short to drive an ugly truck". I love it, told the driver I might have to borrow that one for the back of Big D.
Only whine will be from the turbo here... come on man
Also to find out what the previous owner was talking about with the turbo see if your local dealer will run you an OASIS report. That will tell you all warranty work that has been done to it.
Cant wait to do this.. I know he had some issue(s)

Yup he said the veins were sticky. I believe this is a new turbo and he "rebuilt" the other and had it on ebay as well.
I had to have mine rebuilt once and about a year later replaced. Totally my fault tho.
The truck only has 33k on it.. why the turbo sticky veins.. I know.. search
