Newbie alert.... greetings
- Follow through will all routine maintenance requirements - this is huge for the 6.0 engine. I fall in with those who are conservative on maintenance issues, I change fluids even more often than recommended in many cases (i.e. oil ever 5K instead of 7.5K, coolant every 50K instead of 100K for first change)
- Use 5W-40 synthetic oil ~~~
Brand ? Is mobile 1 ok.. I believe its been Dello so far. Should I switch to synthetic mobile 1 or another? - Only use OEM filters for oil, fuel, & air. Oil & fuel should be Motorcraft or Racor (who makes them for Motorcraft) and air should be Motorcraft or Donaldson (who makes them for Motorcraft). I order mine from Diesel Filter Online and save alot over what the dealership charges (http://www.dieselfiltersonline.com/).
- Use a fuel additive - like oil there are many on the market to choose from. I use Stanadyne Performance but recommend that you do research and decide which one best fits your needs.
- EGR valve - keep it clean and consider replacing with the newest design which you may already have. I think the new design can be identified by a pink dot on the actuator. You might also consider the latest flash upgrade which either eliminates or reduces (not sure which) EGR operation when idling.
- Avoid short hop trips and really open her up ever now and again (after everything has warmed up)
- Add a coolant filter - got my from Diesel Site (http://www.dieselsite.com/)
- CCV route - haven't done this yet but it's high on my list
- Add guages for critical components - at a minimum this should include fuel pressure, oil temp, exhaust gas temp, & transmission temp
There are a few others items that you may want to consider after your truck goes out of warranty. I'm sure others will add to this list but this will be a good place to start.
Off topic here, but... I saw a good decal on the back of a tri-axle dump truck I was loading the other night, thinking about having one made for the back of my truck. It said " Life's too short to drive an ugly truck". I love it, told the driver I might have to borrow that one for the back of Big D.
What are my optimum exhaust temps will driving at 65mph? are there any links to what EXH temps should be at certain run times..Highway, idle, before turning off etc?
As far as the Bankc I/C goes...well ist just that a larger I/C. I have one and didnt see much gain if any from it but hey its better buit then the OEM one so we got that going for us I guess.
Exhaust temps will vary depending on load, ambient temps, throttle position etc. Most say that you shouyld keep it below 1200*, I personally havent seen over 1100*, and that was when my turbo stuck. You should let it cool to about 300* or so before shutting down. This gives enoguh time for the exhaust to cool and also allows cool(er) oil into the turbo to help prevent some coking or bearing issues.

Well try to carefully answer this question and prevent starting another oil opinion thread. There are many good synthetic oils on the market, just make sure it is a properly rated diesel oil. Normally the threads which discuss which oil is best have almost ever major brand listed as being used by someone.
I have an Airaid system on there already... now what filter?
The general recommendation is to keep the stock air intake system unless you are really doing some serious performance upgrades. The rule of thumb is if your under 500 Hp use the stock intake.
Which is the best overall fuel additive will vary widely depending on who you ask. I think that all of the major brands are worthy of consideration and in reality probably provide close to the same benefit.
As for the oil make sure its CJ-4 rated diesel oil and your good to go. Check the walmart shelves they carry a few different diesel oils there including Motor Craft (Not Synthetic I Believe)
As for fuel additive, I am running the Motor Craft Additive, which I beleive is Standadyne. I also add some ashless 2 stroke with every fill up too.

Took the truck for its real first drive since I drove it home.Went up about 3000ft elevation and it sure seemed like the motor liked the cooler air than in the valley
.It sure is a sweet ride. Doesnt corner like my mustang but the views are a kings perch for sure. Truck feels great, plenty of HP and doesnt skip a beat.I had surgery the day after I bought it and havent had much time to spend with it other than looking at it. Still a rookie in all aspects but a happy one, D

What the F250 lacks in cornering ability it more than makes up for in pullin' ability.
I know nothing about campers so this is probably a stupid question. Can you get the camper with a gooseneck ball hitch or does it have to be a fifth wheel hitch? If the gooseneck hitch is an option check-out the B&W Turn-Over hitch. It is a sweet deal and gives you the ability to maintain a flat bed when not towing.
If I buy a used camper will I be able to "convert" a 5th wheel to a goose neck if I find a used one, this is probably the route I will take and hope I can convert so I will have more options.
And sorry to hijack your thread
