well today was not a good day. i believe the head gaskets on my truck blew out. i was able to take it to my friends shop to get a further look. he ran some tests & ran a computer test to check temp, codes, etc. This is what he came up with:
1. Fan Clutch is bad - need to be replaced
2. Head Gaskests Blown
3. Oil Cooler is bad - need to be replaced
4. EGR Cooler is Bad - need to be replaced
Truck is 2004-F350 / 6.0l
He is charging me $2,500.00 for the Labor & I believe the parts are going to be around $1,000.00.
So total is $3,500.00 - Does that sound right???
And should i replace everything with OEM Parts or should i get aftermarket if available.
ARP studs instead of OEM head bolts ($400-$500)
OEM oil cooler core
If you are keeping your EGR system, you should consider the aftermarket EGR cooler:
Try this, EGR cooler delete kit, ARP headstuds, factory ford head gaskets, oil cooler delete or new oil cooler. Make sure you have a head gasket blown, and not just the egr cooler. If you replace everything as per ford, you will be doing it again. And the parts and labor you stated is CHEAP. Make sure heads are flat, you should have them surfaced, and no more than .008 removed for surfacing.
Ok Perfect, thanx guys for the quick response. I use this truck everyday. i have a construction company but i don't put heavy loads in the bed alot. most of my material gets delivered. so no real load. As far as parts goes. If i go OEM. i have another guy who has the EGR Cooler & Oil Cooler brand new for $300.00 for both. the head gaskest & Fan Clutch i would get would be from Ford.
Quick question, on this truck are the problems that i have really the only main issues that go wrong with these motors, or while the motor is being worked on is there anything else that is really a need to change?
