I have a 2010 Ford super duty with a 5.4 with 217,000 miles on it. The mechanic said I have a blown head gasket on the left side. Here are my options.
Replace blown head gasket approximately $2,600.00
Replace engine approximately $5,500.00
Sell Truck
I would like to keep the truck but I really don’t have $6000.00 to be replacing the whole engine. What would you do.
1) Get a new engine
2) Rebuild the current engine. If I was doing this, I would replace other internal parts. Timing chains, the other head gasket, anything that looked worn out.
3) Get a new truck.
You state that there was 212,000 miles on the truck. If the truck(everything else besides the engine) is in very good condition, I would probably get it fixed. If not, I would probably get another truck. You could always look around for another motor from a wrecked truck. That would save you some money.
